Audience Engagement Research - Travel 50 & Beyond: An Incredible Trip to Iceland

This magazine is another destination magazine that focuses on topics similar to mine such as attractions and tourist locations, this being the same type and style of magazine as mine would lead to it having a similar target audience as me. This magazine company has a few out-branching websites as well as four other publications that they could use to advertise this publication as well as many social media sites to advertise on.

Audience Engagement Research - Travel Magazine Guide to Greece

This magazine is also a travel/destination type magazine and would therefor have a similar target audience to mine, most likely those in the age groups of 25-35 and 50-65 as they have been the age groups shown to travel the most. They most likely marketed their product through the use of social media, spreading ads throughout platforms such as Facebook and twitter, as well as selling products to grocery and convenience stores for people to see and buy. Id probably try to advertise my product through social media platforms similarly to this magazine.

InDesign Class Activity

Today in class we utilized Adobe InDesign to lay out our 2 page spread. The software is quite overwhelming at first with so many options and tools that I had no idea how to use, but the more you use it the easier it is and I feel like ill be able to use it fairly well with a little practice. I'll probably end up using InDesign to make the revisions of my 3rd quarter submission as it does seem like a good program to use, it will just take some getting use to.

Audience Engagement Research: Budget Travel - Authentic & Romantic Italy

This magazine is also a travel/destination type magazine and as so has a similar target audience as it attracts the attention of the same groups of people that my magazine would. The magazine is most likely distributed/sold to stores to be put in magazine racks and isles with other magazines, such as in grocery stores, convenience stores, and gas stations, as well as possibly sold to doctors offices or other such places.

My Target Audience

Many demographics show that the majority of those who travel are a mix of men and women typically in the age groups of 25-35 and 50-65, due to that my target audience are those who are in either of those age groups. It is also directed more towards those with mid to high income levels as they would be the groups with the expendable income to use on traveling over basic living expenses. The travel magazine can be directed at almost any area around the world except for the area that it is focusing on, as anyone could decide that they would want to travel to an area, for example Sarasota, but if someone that is from Sarasota saw the magazine they most likely wouldn't pick it up as they most likely have already been to those places. This magazine would appeal to those who have interests in traveling/ who like to travel as it directly applies to their hobbies and interests.

Project Revision Plans

After looking over my draft, it's fairly apparent that it was rushed and not as good as it can or should be. Just from a glance I can tell now that a lot of it needs to be altered or entirely changed, the cover page looks plain and somewhat messy, the table of contents isn't very visually appealing, the first magazine page hardly looks like it belongs in a magazine and the second page isn't much better than the first. For the title page I'm probably going to keep the same format but there is a lot that needs to be changed. The picture and text parts at the bottom look completely separated and its easy to tell that this was my first time ever making a cover page. The table of contents looks plain and boring, along with the different sizes of the pictures making it look unsymmetrical and weird. The first article page can hardly be called a magazine page as it looks more akin to a page on a pamphlet, the text box is weirdly positioned and the text inside of it is far to bi...

Use of Conventions

My magazine was modeled after a typical travel/destination type magazine with the main focus being on highlighting attractions or big tourist locations of a certain area. I did this with Sarasota and used locations around the area such as Marina Jack and Siesta Key as topics in my magazine as they are large tourist attractions and attempted to format it in a similar style to other destination magazines that I reviewed with the place of interest being broken down into different parts, mainly being why it is an attraction, features of the location, surrounding restaurants and shops, etc. with each section of the magazine focusing on an individual location and each of the sections being separated by a few pages of advertisements. My magazine doesn't really represent any social groups or issues as it only talks about locations of interest and says nothing about the people in or around those places.
